Colorful Couch Quilt

I thought up this design for a couch quilt a while back. I've made a lot of quilts but none of them are very wide, which means the guy on the end of the couch gets cold toes. Solution! Make a really wide quilt! Ta da!!

I went to a closing sale at a fabric store (which is very sad) but luckily I found Momo's "Its a hoot" fabric and I got a few yards for the backing. I love this fabric!

Crazy Pinwheel Quilt

This is a quilt I recently made for a co-worker who just lost a loved one to cancer. I started running out of white fabric so I just grabbed some solids and improvised. I kind of like the result.

I used a charm pack of Momo's "Its a hoot" fabric (if anyone cares) for the pinwheels

Plus baby quilt

This stack of fabrics turned into the baby quilt below. Don't ya just love my post title? I'm getting more and more creative with post titles as I progress further into blogging.

I used part of the pattern from the "I heart patchwork" book. So much easier than having to come up with my own pattern! I tried something different and went with a rounded corner for the binding.

Vintage Reproduction Quilt

This quilt has been laying dormant for awhile after I shoved it guiltily into the "half done projects" basket a few months ago. (hangs head) I pulled it out recently and decided to finish it. Its based on my great grandmothers quilt we lost in the fire. I really loved that quilt so I wanted to make one that was similar. I used almost all vintage fabrics and the green fabric is almost the same color as my great grandmothers. I decided to hand tie quilt it too.

I went fabric shopping this past weekend with friends, got a lot of good stuff and may have spread the fabric addiction to one of my best friends. :) Found this Amy butler print and decided I was going to try to plunge into sewing clothing and make myself a skirt. It wasn't much of a plunge, because all that it took to make this was some elastic and straight sewing. I used this tutorial and seriously anyone can make this, it took me about 30 minutes in all.

Wow, my 100th post...only took me 2 years. :) Above is a patchwork quilt I made in November. I was very cold at the time and wanted another quilt and fast, so I used 7inch squares.

Here is a scarf/shawl I finished recently using super wash merino. I love super wash merino, if I could only use one yarn for the rest of my life, it would be that. The hat below is also merino.

Also I made this striped intarsia hat complete with pom pom. That was a must.

I can't believe I last posted in October..wow really? October? Sorry I haven't posted in awhile, it was mostly due to a bad internet connection and forgetfulness/business, but mostly bad internet. Thankfully we are back in our new/old house and the internet is blazing fast! (hallelujah!) Instead of posting all my projects into one post I'm gonna give it to you bit by bit.

This quilt I made in October for my best friend's birthday. I used the friendship star pattern and she loves blues and greens so I tried to keep it in those colors.

I made this octopus plushie mainly for camp, but also just cause I wanted to see if I could make one. The pattern I made turned out fairly well, I just had to make a few alterations.

His name is Octavius, he loves cookies and hugs :)

My ironing corner. :) Trying to finish my spiderweb quilt before I die. (No really it's taking me forever, next time I am doing a patchwork quilt with big squares. Like really big squares) I'm also working on my sister's wedding quilt. (below) Trying different layouts to see which one I like.

I am praying that I can finish both these quilts before the end of August. (hopefully it won't take me longer than that) >.<

Sorry it's been so long since I've posted. Finally got my sewing machine and fabric back and after a big trip to Jo anns I am crafting again. Yay!

My house got a bit crispy

In the middle of my gradutation ceremony my parents were told that our house was on fire. No one was in the house when it happened, thank the Lord. But all our stuff wasn't so lucky. The fire started in the top middle bedroom and its really only the second floor that looked bad.. The rest of of the house looks fine, but there is a lot of water and smoke damage. We are all fine and doing great, we found a beatiful house to rent while our old house is being gutted and rebuilt.

And I know this is supposed to be a blog about crafty stuff, so here is my smokey crafty stuff (now pitched) . My sewing machine and fabric were in another part of the house, so all that is saved. My sewing machine may need to be cleaned (because of the smoke). (wince) I pray it doesn't take that long. My hands are just itching to sew and hand sewing pillow covers really isn't fun.

I incorporated some of my hand sewn hexagons in this pillow. I've been really inspired to make a quilted pillow (just look at my flickr favorites) and I wanted to try it out. It turned out better than I thought it would. I was expecting it to turn out a mangled and unrecognizable mess. But I think everyone can tell its a pillow....at least I hope so..... Hopefully no one out there is thinking "What a lovely toaster cover" or something like that.

Used some of my favorite japanese fabric (that I've been hoarding) for the back. It just happened to coordinate with some polka dot fabric I had on hand. Sorry if this post is more babble-y than usual. I haven't been very wordy in my recent posts, so I think its ok

The result of the little amount of sewing I've been able to do in the last few weeks. I can't wait till its done. Its getting chillier outside and I'd love to be able snuggle up in my homemade quilt and watch a good BBC, (sigh) but not yet. I kept thinking "Maybe I can finish it this week" which turned to "Maybe I can finish a row this week" and more realistically to "Maybe I can finish a block this week"

I am really loving the sunshiney yellow, it makes me happy just looking at it

I finished it! yay! After ripping it out several times and then putting it all back together, its finally completed. Sorry the pictures are so grainy, it was raining so I had to take them inside.

I do feel bad that I haven't been blogging faithfully. I think my last post was a month ago. Whoops. I have been up to a lot of crafty things, so don't worry. I started knitting again (much to my mothers delight) as you can see by the smidgen of a sock above.

Decoupage-ing some stuff right now. Canvas, notebooks.

The results of my bargain hunting at IKEA. The green fabric was 49 cents and I was able to get the patterned slipcover for 99 cents. Its going to be made into a beach bag. :D

The Black and green fabric was probably the most expensive thing I got at IKEA. $3 for half a yard. The black and white fabric was also 99 cents (smiles smugly). I got some fat quarters at the local quilt shop.

Yes, another doodle. Tell me when you grow tired of them.

Ninja power

Hopefully two new mascots for my youth camp team. :) The first one I tried to sew was so pathetic looking, I'm not going to even show you. I think these are pretty good. They're complete with shuriken and ninja weapons.

The thing on his leg is not a bandage its a weapon holder.

New Quilt

A sneak peak at the new quilt I'm working on. I am loving this one. (pats herself on the back) I found that I like to use very busy fabric for the stuff I sew. I wanted to make a quilt but not have it hurt anyone's eyes to look at it. So I decided to make a modified coin quilt with lots of white fabric so that I could still use all the fabrics I love, without it looking jumbled. Phew! Long sentence.

Oh, and guess what I found? Heather Ross fat quarter packs! Autumn did a post on how she found Heather Ross packs at Jo ann's. I didn't really think the Jo ann's near me would have them, but lo and behold they did!

Cabin blocks

I started making cabin blocks this week and I can't stop! I've always loved the look of them, but I thought they looked too complicated to make. Then I realized it's really quite simple! I really want my next quilt to be all cabin blocks. Making them helps me use up a lot of my scraps too.

Some japanese fabric from shop in Lancaster. Love the bunny's. I can't wait to make another quilt. :D A new notebook from Borders for doodles and the like. Also I got a bunch of yellow legal pads from Staples. I know that doesn't sound very exciting, but these are great for doodling and decoupage.

Needle and Cloth

I went to a huge fabric store with my mom on Friday and look what I got! I went straight for the amy butler prints. Funny story from that trip. I pick out all my fabrics (it took me awhile) and then I take my fabric over to be cut. The lady at the counter is telling how pretty the fabrics that I've chosen are. Then she gets to the blue fabric and says "You know this has fish on it, right?" I say "yeah, I saw that" she says "You saw the fish?"me "yup". I laughed about it on the way home. She really wanted me to know that there were fish on the fabric and that I was ok with that.

Tried a little embroidering. Got the hoop for a dollar at a huge antique store that we went to afterwards. The first thing I did is of course a mushroom.

This one's very random, but I like it.

I got some new notebooks for doodling at Borders and a nice pencil case. Doodling out some more ideas. I Love doodling, I almost filled up my other doodle book already.

I really needed a phone case (my phone slips out of everything) so I sewed this one up. Its quilted too so my phone should be extra protected.

I doodled this for my friend Katie's B-day. I also made a little zippy pouch and a necklace, but I forgot to take a picture of the necklace. I made capris out of the same fabric for my little sister's B-day. I really like this fabric and it was only $2 a yard. You'll probably see a lot of it in the future!

Which is pretty good! I'm going to sheep & wool on Sat. Which I am pretty excited about. Hoping to come home with an armful of gorgeous yarn!

I mentioned to a friend of mine that I like to redo journals, so she brought me one to redo. It's just a regular mead notebook that I stripped and covered with paper. I also covered it with the sticky protective stuff.

I must say that ring notebooks are easier to redo than notebooks with a sewn binding.

Does this look familiar? Well, a while ago it I was going to quilt it and finish it off. When I laid it all out, I realized I had sewn the quilt completely crooked! I got so mad at myself for being a complete failure at sewing. So I shoved it in the back of the closet, never to be remembered again. I think my family knew it was a touchy subject. I'm sure they went around whispering to each other "don't mention that quilt Sarah started". I follow a lot of quilt blogs, so it wasn't easy to forget my pathetic excuse of a quilt lying at the back of the closet. I was suddenly driven to finish my quilt after reading a bunch of quilt blogs. So I worked on it like crazy, I had to cut a lot off to make it straight and it still isn't perfect. I am sort of sorry I used the fabrics that I did too. Some of them are really bright and don't really go with the rest of it. But I was poor at the time, so I just had to use what I had. It's finally done though, and I can say I made a quilt!!

Scrappy things

I finally finished redoing this notebook, you might recognize it. Part of it is the header for my blog. I collect a lot of paper scraps. I get the paper from magazines, clothing tags, stuff I get in the mail. You can get a lot of cool looking paper that way. (and no, I'm not crazy)

I had some cardboard lying around, so I decided to cover it in scraps too. I even put this protective sticky stuff over it. I always feel like an idiot when I go to the office store, "do you have clear, sticky, protective stuff??" Anyway, I'm not quite sure what I should do with the board. Any suggestions? Maybe It will be a gift......

Birthday presents

It was my Mom's birthday yesterday, so I made her a needle case for all of her bamboo double-points. She didn't have a case for them yet and they were all just wrapped together with a rubber band. Which is not helpful when you are looking for the size 3's. To all you non-knitters this probably sounds like meaningless babble. (sorry) I know all the knitters are going "a complete set of bamboo double points!! Nice!"

I know. I'm jealous too.

Mushroom madness

Okay, so remember how I said I was getting into drawing mushrooms? I wasn't kidding. I seem to be drawing them on everything! Which is funny, because as far as eating goes. I hate mushrooms. The smell, the texture of them. I do like to draw them though! I made this Birthday card for a relative and what is on it? A mushroom!

I've been incorporating them in my doodles a lot too. I made this one below for a friend who asked me to make a design with only mushrooms.

Yeah, I've been doodling more. I have discovered that I love mechanical pencils! They are so fun to draw with. I did the doodle at the top with a mechanical pencil. So yesterday, I really wanted to sew something. I decided on a little top for my sister. I measured her, used one of her shirts as a guide. I sewed the body and the top part and measured it. The only thing is, I measured it before I ironed it. Very important. When she tried it on, it was skin tight! The agony!! I had to rip it all out:( Sitting there ripping out all my hard work. Luckily when I sewed it this time, it fit. (whew)

I added little strips of fabric on the side, so that it would fit her and she would have room to grow. I'll just let everyone else think its pretty detailing.

These are some attempts at drawing anime. Before you all start to comment. I copied these from Mark Crilley. (hangs head) I always feel like I cheated if I copy something in drawing. I just feel so ashamed that I don't have the skill in drawing to just draw these out of the blue.

I've been in a card making craze recently. My desk is an absolute mess right now, almost everything crafty is spread out on my desk in a chaotic mess! I got a bunch more crafty stuff from all my girlfriends. Thanks girls! All that new crafty stuff sent me into a card making frenzy! This card I made for somebody's birthday this week. I'm quite proud of this one. :)

I was moving around my many books today, (I'm running out of shelf room!) when I discovered a bunch of little books I made in the past. This one below is probably the most recent. I used it as a journal for a little while.

The beginning of a quilt

I started this a few days ago. I have been wanting to make a real quilt for awhile and I was inspired by on of the blogs I follow. http://www.filminthefridge.com/ Here's her blog if you want to check it out. She makes really gorgeous quilts and I was inspired to make my own. I've made a quilt before. Sort of. Its just a front and a back, no squishy stuff inside, so it's not considered an authentic quilt. Poor thing, it wants to be a "real quilt". I made the rectangles really big, which is nice, because it goes faster. I wanted to make this quilt really big. Big enough to cuddle up with while watching mushy movies and big enough so that I could potentially put it on my bed. My little bother gets brownie points for helping me take the pictures. Sorry the pictures are such bad quality, its the best I could do with my non-professional camera.

Ribbon holder

I've had this design for a ribbon holder in my head for a while, so I decided to finally make one out of wire. Its not the prettiest design, but it works and its nice to have the ribbon right there where I can reach it. And I get to show off all my cute ribbon. :) I know this is really interesting to all of you.

Really, I am. Trust me. I was all upset yesterday because when I was playing around with my blog the comments part of the page disappeared. I was getting all annoyed at the settings because I told it to show comments and allow them. So, I'm getting more and more irritated at it and wondering why the heck it isn't working. It dawned on me today as I was trying to fix it. The comments weren't wiped off the face of the earth, I had accidentally put the comments the same color as the background! So I couldn't see them! I'm banging my head on the table, saying "moron! moron! moron!" I guess that was to teach me that my own stupidity can be my downfall at times.

I finished my mittens just in time for it to snow!

I finished the mittens fairly quickly, which is nice because its cold!

These were fun to knit even though I ripped them out 5 times.

I'm thinking about knitting a hat to match.

Yes, sorry more cards. Fascinating I know. I made these in the past few days. I'm running out of good ideas and layouts. I need inspiration! (sigh) I'm working on my mittens a lot, trying to finish them , because its so darn cold!! It was snowing when I took these pictures.

Knitting Needle Case

I made this knitting needle holder last night. My old one I sewed by hand, because our old sewing machine hated everyone who used it. Plus I sewed the pockets for the needles too big, so my needles kept falling out all the time. The needles fit good in this one. :)

Crafty supplies!

Hey! Sorry I haven't posted in awhile. The blogging site was being annoying. I got a bunch of cheap scrapbooking stuff on Saturday. I loaded the pictures in the wrong order, so the pictures of the stuff I got are at the bottom. These are two card I made today with some of the stuff I got on Saturday.

I got a bunch of ribbon, stickers and some alphabet stamps
The red, striped and polka dot ribbon were all supposed to be christmas ribbon. So they were really cheap. They don't look like christmas ribbon to me! The brown and cupcake ribbon were 50 cents each. I used the cupcake ribbon on the pink card above.

I love these stickers! The little japanese looking gumdrop is my favorite. :)
These are letter stamps. (as you can see) I was really happy to find these were only a

buck for the pack. Usually alphabet stamps sets are around $10.

I love getting cheap stuff!

Crazy day

Today was a little hectic. My Dad had surgery today, so, the kids and I were alone most of the day. It was also crazy trying to get my school done and helping the kids with theirs and not shooting myself in the process. I got done school at a fairly decent hour, so I had a little time to sew this pouch/bag and do some other crafty stuff. "I got I full 40 minutes and I had time to build that rocking horse." I am actually glad I don't have a professional camera right now, because if I did, you guys would be able to see my crappy buttonholes. I stink at buttonholes. I've read a mullion tutorials about how to sew a buttonhole by hand and with a machine, but I still can't get the hang of it. My buttonholes look like some animal ate a hole in the the fabric and I'm trying to deceive myself that its a hole for a button. I love buttons! I have quite a collection now ,thanks to my family and Emily Witter. I see buttons in the store and go "that's pretty, I'll get some", but only when I get home do I remember that I have to make a hole in fabric for that button. And make that hole look nice.

You try to sew one and then you'll understand where I'm coming from.

Anyway, enough of my ranting.

Here are pictures of the bag /pouch thing I made. I thinking about using my fabric scraps to make a bunch of them for future gifts.

I made this one a few months ago, I love this fabric from Ikea :)

I've used it so much, that I have almost none left in my stash. (sniff)

Card pictures

Yay! I got the pictures to go where I wanted them to go! Anyway, started school again today. (sigh) Life goes on as usual. These are the cards I was writing about. I took these pictures on Saturday. It was really cold! As you can tell by the icyness in the photos. The sunset was pretty though. I really wish stamps weren't so expensive, then I could actually mail these to people. I love sending cards and letters to people, it just seems more personal. I need to go get some envelopes to put these in or make my own for these cards. I hope you peoples like these, because your probably going to get one of them at some point in time!

Sad, I know. That I am posting again so soon after my first, but I couldn't help it! I have a bunch of artsy stuff I want to show. :-) I really love to work with watercolor. I like experimenting with different colors and techniques. I just love how the brushstrokes look on paper. I've come up with some pretty weird looking stuff, but some cool looking stuff too. "My friends do say I certainly know how to make a sandwich". :) I still don't know how to make the pictures go where I want them to. I promise to have more soon.

Well, this is all new to me, but here I go.

I wanted to start this blog to share all the crafty stuff that I like to do in my spare time. I love almost every and any craft you can think of. :) I love to knit, sew, stamp, make cards, draw, paint, scrapbook and sometimes bead. I have been doing a lot of crafting during holiday break. My family and friends were very generous with giving me crafting supplies. I've had great fun, using all my new stuff! :) I haven't been sewing a lot recently, but I did make this bunny a little while before Christmas. He is a little beat up, but much loved. He is named "patchy bunny". How unique I know.
